Chapter Philanthropy and Service

Every October, the Kappa Phi chapter of Christopher Newport University (CNU) celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness month with "Pinktober." We hold many events, including a Pink Out Football Game, Pink Out Basketball Game, Big Man on Campus and a few other events that vary per year--all with the goal of promoting Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.

Each year we pass out hundreds of pink ribbons and informational brochures during CNU football games. Also, every year we attended The Commanders football game at the Fedex Stadium where we help the sisters from surrounding chapter hand out pink ribbons to fans attending the game.

Our philanthropy is very near and dear to our hearts, as many people we know have been affected by breast cancer. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and one in three know someone who has breast cancer. These are frightening statistics, but we believe by working together and spreading the word about preventive measures, that we can bring hope and one day a cure to women nationwide.
